Maccaferri Jumbo Gabions are used on large scale civil engineering projects where large volumes of gabions are to be constructed. Identical in concept to our regular gabions, Jumbo Gabions are just much larger!

They enable the contractor to install gabion units faster and more efficiently, due to the economies of scale of the units and construction process.

Delivered flat-packed, our gabions are assembled and then filled with stones at the project site.

Our Green Gabions are modular gabion units used for streambank stabilization, restoration and erosion protection solutions.

They are is specifically designed for use with soil bioengineering techniques such as live staking, brush layering and rooted plants, to create permanent, vegetating, armoured systems. The Green Gabion consists of a basket manufactured from heavily galvanized and polymer coated double twisted hexagonal woven steel wire mesh which is lined with a 100% coir blanket. The unit is filled in-place with gabion stone and then the voids between the stones are filled with quality topsoil, before the unit is closed.

The topsoil sustains the establishment of the vegetating soil-bioengineering techniques, and the stone fill provides a tough skeleton to the system.

MacSoil is a prismatic (or trapezoidal) gabion element engineered from double twisted hexagonal woven steel wire mesh. It is used to form low-height retaining structures or revetment protection works and has the final appearance of a vegetated natural slope.

The front face of the unit includes an additional mesh layer to form a slim containment system into which quality topsoil is introduced. A geosynthetic matting is used to prevent the topsoil from spilling out through the mesh fascia. The core of the gabion unit is filled in the normal way.

Sack gabions are cylindrical baskets engineered from double twisted hexagonal woven steel wire mesh.

The tubular units are filled with gabion stone at the project site and laced tightly shut. This modular unit is then used to provide erosion protection for river banks, scour protection of bridge piers, or any situation that requires immediate defence from the erosion effects of water. The sack gabions are lifted into position using suitable equipment and simply stacked upon one another to form a mass of contained rocks.

Sack gabions are supplied with steel reinforcing wires inserted during the manufacturing process to facilitate closing during installation. In order to reinforce the structure, all mesh panel edges are selvedged with a wire having a greater diameter

Maccaferri Strong Face gabions are an excellent solution for use when a gabion wall, or revetment needs a stronger than normal face. The units can be used where there are higher loads within the gabion structure or in situations where a higher abrasion resistance is required on the face of the gabion. This can occur for example in river or lake works where there is the risk of ice movement and increased potential for damage.

Our gabion baskets are made from high quality steel wire, which is heavily galvanised to provide long term corrosion protection. An additional protective polymeric coating is also applied for gabions that are to be used in more aggressive environments, or where a longer design life is required.

In order to obtain higher abrasion resistance and to improve the front face strength, the front or one side of gabions is produced with steel wire mesh of diameter 3.4mm. The other faces of the gabion are produced with mesh of diameter 2.7 mm. In order to reinforce the structure, all mesh panel edges are selvedged with a wire having a greater diameter.

Strong face gabions are divided into cells by means of diaphragms placed with distance of 1m. They are filled with stones at the project site to form flexible, permeable, monolithic structures such as retaining walls, channel linings, and weirs for erosion control projects.
